How to properly clean your cat's litter box?
Share
It's no surprise to cat parents that cats love cleanliness. And this of course also applies to their sandbox. If it is too full, dirty or smells bad, it is very likely that the kitty will choose to defecate elsewhere.
And that's not the only problem. A litter box that is not cleaned often and properly becomes foul-smelling, causing an unpleasant sensation throughout the house. But it doesn't have to be that way.
By following the tips below, your beloved feline will feel comfortable and you won't have any problems with bad smells.
What should you do every day?
It is essential, at least once a day, to clean the sanitary sand by removing the excrement and lumps that have formed.
It is also a good idea to clean the sand shovel and the edge of the box with soap and water. The same applies to the pelvis door, if you have a closed pelvis.
What should you do every week?
Once a week we recommend that you completely empty the cat's basin and wash it with soap and warm water. Do not clean it with chemicals, such as ammonia or bleach, because cats are very sensitive to smells. A strange smell can make your pet avoid the basin for a long time.
After washing the basin and letting it dry, fill it with new sanitary sand.
A mat under the basin will also help you in the general hygiene of the area , so that the remnants of the sand collect there and the cat's paws are always clean.
At this point it is important to say that you should have chosen the right sanitary sand for the cat's needs . If you have more cats, it is a good idea to have litter for several cats. On the other hand, if the sandbox is open, then a sand with an extra smell will help you to cover the unpleasant odors.
If you clean the litter box regularly, but your cat still avoids it, then you should contact the vet to rule out any health problems.
